BU Student Spotlight with Bill Simpson
My name is Bill Simpson and I was a student at Chicago show last year and currently enrolled for the Chicago show again. I saw the post on Facebook asking how our fishing has improved as a result of The Bass University. Having only been bass fishing for 5 years, I can tell you I relied heavily on the information I learned at The Bass University.
I just competed in my first ever TBF Divisional tournament and was able to use some of the information I learned last year in Chicago to help me finish as the top angler from Michigan, which secured my entry into the TBF National Championship next April on Grand Lake in Oklahoma. I also made the 2013 State of Michigan team and will be competing in Ohio next year.
This years divisional tournament was on the Mississippi River Pools 7, 8 & 9 out of La Crosse, Wisconsin. Prior to that tournament I had never really fished a big river system before, so to prepare prior to going I studied the notes I took from Ote Defoe's session on river fishing and I would review those notes each night of the tournament as well. Those specific notes along with some of the other notes I took really helped me put together my game plan and figure out what changes I needed to make each day of the tournament.
In addition to being the top finisher from Michigan, I also caught the biggest bass of the entire 3 day tournament (4 pounds 15 ounces), which I'm pretty proud of. I have also signed on the be on the for Kustom Kicker Jigs Pro-Staff
I can tell you I am a much more focused, patient and efficient angler as a result of The Bass University.
